The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a New Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The speculation around The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction hints that the team might be designing a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—traits that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.

The series is also famously permissive, allowing players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
