19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev secured his initial title for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former number one, has experienced a difficult season, winning just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive victory over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's first title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt after that period of 2023.

Success also means he has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters together, so to get a championship is really nice," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his last six finals, featuring in the German tournament in the past months.

His defensive strategy and frequent reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his skill to play at the top level was concluded.

However the player has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, securing 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.

The pair traded break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden tour title, seized the initiative to create a decider.

He saved 4 early-game chances in a close deciding set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he clinched the win with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
